FanDuel Golf Betting Upgrade to Debut at St. Jude Championship

FanDuel has given a significant boost to the golf betting landscape by integrating with British sports data firm IMG Arena’s Golf Event Centre platform.

This integration will debut on August 10 with the FedEx St. Jude Championship at the TPC Southwind course in Memphis, Tennessee (pictured). It will offer golf bettors their first look at this hugely enhanced range of live in-play markets via FanDuel’s mobile betting app.

FanDuel has been an official golf betting partner of the Professional Golfing Association (PGA) since August 2020, so deepening the offering for bettors on the sporting tour makes sense.

New Ways to Engage

FanDuel’s integration with IMG Arena’s Golf Event Centre will provide fans with plenty of live markets, including longest drive, closest to the pin, and other shot-by-shot wagering opportunities.

“We can offer fans access to a robust catalog of live markets that will give them new ways to engage with the sport on every hole,” said Christian Genetski, president of FanDuel Group, in a joint company statement.

That expanded offering comes alongside other recent bet concepts like head-to-head matchup pickers, stage leaders, and traditional bets like futures and parlays.

Immersive Data Visualization

As well as allowing more betting options, the IMG Arena Golf Event Centre will provide FanDuel with real-time golf data from the PGA Tour to enhance the data visualization experience for fans.

This feature will allow fans to track each shot in real-time, view hole profiles, see course maps, and have access to a live leaderboard that can be customized to track hole-by-hole performance of their favorite players.

“Our Golf Event Centre is an industry-first product that enables interactive in-play betting on golf for the first time, bringing a new dimension to the golf experience for fans around the world,” said IMG’s VP of Sales, Brian Clayton.

“Now, FanDuel customers can enjoy its immersive data-visualization features during the PGA Tour’s world-class tournaments, and benefit from unique markets to enjoy every shot, hole, and player.”

FanDuel’s extension of its golf markets was almost inevitable. The PGA has been the only big golfing game in town for 60 years, so whichever sportsbook sealed an agreement with them was guaranteed a lot of golf fans’ attention.

FanDuel’s rival DraftKings attempted to gain on the market earlier this year, adding the controversial Saudi Arabian state-backed LIV Golf to its betting options. That’s a decision which was denied by regulators in DraftKing’s home state of Massachusetts.

As well as being metaphorically in the clear on the golf front for now, especially with this enhanced offering, FanDuel will have a physical presence at the FedEx Cup tournament over the coming weekend.

The sportsbook will apparently offer on-site attendees the chance to win $5,000 in bonus bets by holing a bunker shot.

When it comes to the professionals on the field, world number one Scottie Scheffler of Dallas, Texas, is the bookmakers’ favorite for the championship win. Veteran Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy is not far behind, and this year’s Masters winner, Jon Rahm, sits in third favorite, with the rest of the field well off the leading pack.
